Hanseatic City of Lübeck
Lübeck is a lively city with around 214,000 inhabitants. Its emblems are famous: its well- known marzipan or the famous town silhouette with its seven towers. Or even the Holsten Gate, which appears on the German two euro coin. In 1987 Lübeck old town, which is unique with around 1,800 listed buildings, winding passageways and historic alleys, was declared a UNESCO world heritage site. The town looks back over its eventful history as a Hanseatic City in the Middle Ages until the present day.
Situated only approximately 10 kilometres from the centre we find Travemünde, Lübeck’s seafront promenade and beach on the Baltic Sea. It’s a splendid place to refresh tired feet with a dip in the water. From the comfort of a beach chair you can watch the ferries coming and going from Scandinavia.
Lübeck is situated approximately 60 km northeast of Hamburg and can be easily reached by the A1 motorway, Lübeck Central Train Station and Hamburg International Airport.
